On 14th and 15th April 2016 the national kick-off conference for the European Mobility Week took place in Berlin. TUMI Friends participated in the marketplace presenting innovative solutions for mobility – made in Germany. The conference introduced the European Mobility Week to local governments and encouraged to participate with own projects. Since 2002, the EMW is held every year in nearly all European Countries. This year’s motto is: Smart and sustainable mobility – an investment for Europe.
Densely populated and with existing infrastructure for public transport, cities have the best conditions to develop an effective sustainable transport system.. The European Mobility Week is the occasion to inform citizens on the challenges of sustainable transport and to mobilise them for new projects. It is also the perfect event to inaugurate new bicycle infrastructure and public transport lines or to open new infrastructure to the public.
The kick-off conference featured a so called marketplace where actors in the field of sustainable mobility presented their work to local authorities and present NGOs. On this place of networking and exchange, TUMI Friends presented friends ideas on sustainable mobility and logistics with a stall.
During the programme, two German cities, Frankfurt am Main and Chemnitz, presented their EMW projects and showed how differently the week can be designed. Furthermore, two presentations from Austria indicated how the EMW is organised there and gave a lot of inspiration for possible activities that can be planned, even on a low budget.
All presentations that have been held are accessible on the UBA webpage here.
The full documentation can be accessed here. Besides the summary of the presentations held, it also includes the outcomes of the discussion in the “world-café”, introducing a lot of ideas on projects and actions that can be organised for EMW. Unfortunately, the documentation is only available in German.
