Wanted: Forerunners of Ecodesign

 

You are a company, start-up, design agency or a student group working on sustainable products? Then you should know about the German Federal Ecodesign Prize!

The prize is awarded every year by the German Federal Ministry for the Environment (BMUB) and the Federal Environment Agency (UBA) to products, concepts and services which are both ecological and user-friendly. The focus of the prize on the entire life cycle of a product – from the idea to production, to the question of how the product can be recycled or disposed of.

The Federal Prize Ecodesign is now awarded for the 6th time in the categories “product” “concept”, “service” and “young talent”. The application period runs until 16th of April 2017. The award winners and nominees will be honored at the award ceremony in the Federal Ministry of the Environment on 27 November 2017 and presented in a traveling exhibition at exhibitions and museums in the following year.

UNDP-GEF “City of Almaty Sustainable Transport” (CAST) Project announces a competitive bidding among companies

 

The UNDP project “City of Almaty Sustainable Transport” Project (CAST) with support of the Global Environment Facility (GEF) is aimed to reduce the growth of the transport-related greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions in the City of Almaty, while simultaneously improving urban environmental conditions by 1a) improving the management of public transportation; 1b) improving management of air quality in Almaty; 2) building capacity in Almaty to holistically plan and implement improvements in the efficiency and quality of public transport; 3) building capacity to holistically plan and implement integrated traffic management measures in Almaty City; and 4) implementing a demonstration project that raises awareness and increases knowledge of sustainable transport.

CAST project will explore the pathways for reforms of the urban transport sector in Kazakhstan and provide an overview on key policy measures at the local and national level to offer more sustainable transport policy for cities of Kazakhstan.

Strategic Partnership explores perspectives for German and European ICT companies in Africa

 

Logo PRANew technologies and innovative solutions will determine the future of our neighbouring continent Africa to a great extent. For German and European digital companies, the advancing digitisation holds enormous potential and new business opportunities. This also applies to products and services in the field of sustainable mobility.
The Digital Africa Strategic Partnership is an initiative of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and has the goal of developing the digital potentials of Africa and of providing lasting impulses for development together with the private sector. The partnership includes a network of German and European companies that offer products and services in the field of information and communication technologies in Africa. The entire sector is addressed from the innovative start-up to the established large company. The partnership focuses on selected countries such as Ethiopia, Cameroon, Kenya, Mozambique, Nigeria, Rwanda, Zambia, South Africa, Tunisia and Uganda, which offer a good framework for successful implementation. Nevertheless project proposals for activities in other countries are generally possible.

He explained that the planning approach has shifted from capacity oriented provision of road infrastructure to providing an energy efficient and affordable access to mobility.
